I have been painting sky and clouds for a few weeks, and the paintings that are still in my head are showing up on canvas.
I have always had a fascination with clouds, and one day I realized that I wanted to start painting them - and to keep painting them until I can't paint one more cloud! This may never end!
What I am doing now is a logical progression on my path as an artist. My plan is to use more of the fascinating color combinations that I see other artists using on their cloud paintings. I am no longer satisfied with sunsets over the water. I like putting vivid colors into innocent, happy clouds floating in the sky. I put landscapes in some of the scenes, but the subject is the CLOUDS!
What better satisfaction can any artist have than to paint what he or she has a passion for!
Have you seen them? You haven't lived until you've been to an airshow by the "U.S. Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron".
The Blue Angels are based at Sherman Field on NAS Pensacola, as is the National Naval Aviation Museum, home to over 150 beautifully restored aircraft.
The Blue Angels offer visitors TWO free airshows each year, the first being the week following Independence day and the last being Veteran's Day weekend. Their weekly practices from March through November are also spectacular.
The Independence Day show, famously known as the "Pensacola Beach Airshow", happens during “Red, White, and Blues Week” after July 4th.
Then on Veteran’s Day weekend, the Blue Angels wrap up their performance season on their home turf with the "Blue Angels Homecoming Airshow".
A LITTLE HISTORY
The shows began at Craig Field in Jacksonville FL in 1946. They have been in Pensacola since the 1950s, and Pensacola folks call them "Our Blues."
Today the Blue Angels Flight Demonstration Squadron are the most famous mascot for Naval aviation in the world. They perform perilous maneuvers in exhibitions all over the US and Canada and occasionally in locations outside of North America. In 2025, the Blue Angels have 34 air shows scheduled.
The talented and courageous team's motto is "Teamwork. Professionalism. Precision." And they definitely have to be all three to accomplish those amazing maneuvers in the jets!
Several impressionist paintings are available of the Blue Angels in various formations and maneuvers.
This painting won an award at a Plein Aire Paint-Out art show at Quayside Gallery recently.
I painted it at the Bodacious Shop's outdoor eating area. It was a beautiful day, just perfect for painting!
